Hyper Heat is a different compressor and refrigeration setup built to hold onto full heating performance in genuinely extreme cold, and it's rated to keep working reliably from –22°F up to 122°F, backed by ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certification.
This is a step up in size from the 12K Hyper Heat — built for spaces up to about 800 square feet, so think a larger open living area, a finished basement, or a bigger addition, rather than a single bedroom or office. Efficiency runs a bit lower at this size, 21.2 SEER2 versus 23.5 on the 12K, which is normal — bigger units are almost always somewhat less efficient than smaller ones doing less work.
A traditional mini-split built for this kind of extreme-weather performance almost always requires a licensed HVAC contractor — running refrigerant lines, pulling a vacuum, and getting it signed off before it's legally allowed to run. This system skips that. The 25-foot line set arrives pre-charged with refrigerant from the factory, so there's nothing to vacuum and no license required to connect it, which typically saves thousands of dollars in labor and means you're not waiting on a contractor's schedule to get through a cold snap.
The included DIYPRO armored cable stands in for traditional electrical conduit. It runs on 230V power — most homes already have a circuit available (the kind that runs a dryer or electric range), so it's usually a matter of confirming one's near the install site. You control it through the MRCOOL app, or Alexa and Google Assistant, with Follow Me sensing that reads the temperature wherever you're actually sitting. The outdoor unit runs at about 58 decibels, close to normal conversation, and its Gold Fin coating resists corrosion near the coast or in humid climates.
